Century II Introduces Sensory Packs for an inclusive experience
Wichita, Kansas – Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center, an ASM Global managed venue, is excited to announce the launch of new sensory packs, designed to create a more inclusive and comfortable experience for patrons with sensory sensitivities. These packs will be available for the first time during the 5-day engagement of "Beetlejuice" April 2-6 and will continue to be accessible at all ticketed events moving forward.
Each sensory pack includes a pop-it fidget toy, earplugs, a lollipop, and a sanitizing wipe, offering tools to help patrons manage sensory sensitivities while enjoying events at Century II. The inclusion of a small treat, like the lollipop, provides a simple and effective way to engage the senses and create a calming effect.
"I have been researching ways that we can be more welcoming for a while but have struggled to find a solution that fits our venue," said Box Office Manager Andréa Blann, who first discovered the idea at a conference. "At INTIX, I sat in on an ADA panel where a man discussed the tribulations of attending events with his Autistic son who is prone to sensory overload. While he used to take a backpack full of coping mechanisms, when he created his own comic con, he established sensory packs for anyone who needed them."
Patrons can inquire where to pick up the sensory packs at the box office during any ticketed event. The packs are available on a first-come, first-served basis free of charge and can be taken home for continued use.
"We are always looking for ways to improve accessibility and ensure that everyone can fully enjoy the magic of live entertainment," said General Manager John Hale. "These sensory packs are a simple yet meaningful step toward making our venue more inclusive for all."
The introduction of sensory packs is part of Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center’s ongoing effort to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for all guests. The venue continues to explore additional initiatives to enhance the experience for patrons of all abilities.
"We hope these sensory packs give patrons the support they need to feel at ease during our shows," said Blann. "Events are for everyone, and small accommodations like this can go a long way in making that a reality."
